In late 2008 and into mid 2009 I was suffering with what I thought was bladder pain.  I saw three different urologists who after many tests, some invasive and others requiring anesthesia, could not find a solid reason for my pain.  I eventually learned that I needed to see a Urogynecologist,  after doing my own research online.  After almost a year of pain I had an answer in minutes when she performed a very different exam that included the pelvic floor region.  My pelvic floor was in spasm, making it hard to void and causing bladder discomfort, otherwise referred to as pelvic floor dysfunction, and I was referred to Jenny Hunt for physical therapy.

After a year of pain, embarrassment, and even depression, I was given hope, and upon working with Jenny RELIEF!  After having so many awkward appointments trying to address my pain I immediately felt something different upon my first appointment with Jenny.  She was very compassionate, took the necessary time with me, was very professional, all of which made me extremely comfortable.  Originally I had to work with Jenny twice a week, but before long my symptoms improved greatly and I could cut back.  Being under the Care of Jenny Hunt has improved my life greatly.  Even before my bladder pain started I had a lot of frequency with urinating.  I was always looking for a public restroom or getting up all night, that is no longer the case.  I have also become more aware of how my body works and how to manage any flare ups that may happen.  Jenny has always been there for me and I can’t thank her enough.

When I was blessed enough to learn about Jenny and Provenance Rehabilitation.  I had chronic pain that felt like glass shards in my bladder.  I had trouble emptying my bladder nothing provided me relief.  It did not matter if I urinated or didn’t, I had consent pain and pressure.  The pain was debilitating and I could not stand to even do grocery shopping or dishes.  I did not sleep longer than about an hour and half at a time.  I was in so much pain I found it hard to even eat.   I have tried multiple medicines plus incredibly painful treatments.

I was told by two doctors that nothing else could be done.  In desperation for my life, I went to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.  There, I was referred to Jenny.  When meeting Jenny, I immediately knew I was with someone who truly understood my conditions and my pain for the first time in a very long time.  She listened to everything I had tried and been through.  Jenny told me that when I left her, I would not be in more pain and that I should begin to feel better!

Everything else I had tried had just made the pain worse.  Jenny was right I felt immediate pain relief from our first visit.  I had a larger range of motion with less pain.  Found myself finally sleeping and eating with some regularity.  I could empty my bladder!  For the first time in four years I had some relief and improvement in my pain level.

With continued treatment from Jenny and some very helpful exercises she gave me.  My pain has continued to improve.  I am starting to feel like me again instead of feeling like it had taken over me and my life.  I do not know what I would have done if I had never found Jenny and Provenance Rehabilitation.  She had changed my life forever. It is the only thing that has helped me and has allowed me to regain the quality of life that I want.

I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosis about four years ago. In addition to constant flair-ups and irritation, intercourse was extremely painful due to the thinning of the lining of the vulva which caused it to tear and scar. After seeing several gynecologists and using hormone therapy, steroidal creams, etc. my current gynecologist suggested that I might also consider having physical therapy to that area.

I must admit it took me a few months to adjust to the thought of this new method of treatment. After meeting Jennifer, my husband and I decided that because our sexual relationship was important to us we wanted to continue it as long as possible and should at least try this option.

Jennifer made us feel very comfortable during therapy and also gave us some exercises we could try at home. At first I thought I would be embarrassed but that was not the case. She was easy to talk to and worked with my gynecologist keeping her informed of my progress.

After about a month of treatment with Jenny at Provenance Rehabilitation we saw considerable improvement. The lichen sclerosis is not going to go away and all I can do is continue to treat it and be aware of any new progress made in this area but my husband and I are able to continue our sexual relationship. Let’s face it, it’s not like it was when we were thirty but having physical therapy has extended the time I have to be sexually active and I am grateful to Jennifer for helping us.

It is important for women to realize that talking about things that may be extremely personal is necessary if we are able to help one another. Also, trying new treatments that can improve the quality of your life is worth it!
